K3 foot

Our Rehab’Impulse K3 foot was developed to address a global need that remains insufficiently met: propose a prosthetic foot with advanced biomechanics, Energy Storage and Release (ESAR), high durability in harsh environment, and affordable to all.

This high-performance foot was developed through a collaboration between the ICRC and the EPFL institute of technology in Switzerland. The project began in 2016 under the name “Agilis” and focused on:

  • Design and related mechanical performance
  • Biomechanics and gait analysis
  • Materials selection and processing to optimize the cost-performance ratio

This engineering work and associated methodology lead to the writing of a scientific publication in PLOS-ONE. In 2018, a first prototype was successfully tested in Vietnam. This paved the way for the industrialization of the initial concept, and then the scale-up phase for mass production.

Between 2022 and 2023, the foot underwent large scale fields trials at ICRC Rehabilitation Centers in Cambodia and Iraq.

Results highlighted a good biomechanical performance (improved gait and lower asymmetry of walk compared to the commonly used SACH foot) despite improvements in durability were identified as a key area for improvement.

After years of development and refinement, this patented product was officially launched in 2025 and is now available for purchase!
